(Um, apologies in advance for going a bit photo-happy on this post.)
Two weekends ago I went to the Windy City for a reunion with my college girlfriends. We were there four years ago, before graduation, new jobs, grad schools, and even a wedding:
(Julie's wedding at fabulous Crane Estate)
We met up for a quick ladies' weekend and enjoyed the usual schedule of brunches, manicures, shopping, and going out. Saturday we went for an early dinner at Frontera Grill (4:30pm is the time to line up for the 5pm seating if you hope to secure a table -- the night before we tried to go and were called three and a half hours after we put our names in -- needless to say, we had moved on). Our tasty Mexican selections included the following: (photos were tough in the restaurant lighting)
- Delicious margaritas, obviously (small, but strong!)
- Homemade tortilla chips (you could taste the sweetness of the corn) and a spectacular guacamole (the creaminess of the avocado and the tangy-ness of the lime were perfect)
- Hawaiian yellowfin tuna ceviche, served with a delicious guacamole and refreshing mango-grapefruit salsa (so fresh!)
- Sweet corn tamales (fluffy and light)
- My entrée: Amazing duck enchiladas (with a symphony of flavors I can't even pretend to pinpoint)
As is always the case when you put good people and good food in the same place, a great time was had by all -- I miss these girls. But you know what they say: best friends fiesta. I mean, forever.
