Once you pop....

The last week here in New England has been pretty wintery: local public schools have been closed for multiple days; the usual, shoveled-out parking spot drama in Southie has unfolded; and the novelty from using our new suburban snow blower has decidedly worn off.

How does one stay entertained in the suburbs during a snowstorm, you ask?

Step 1: Turn on switch-on fireplace
Step 2: Pour glass of wine
Step 3: Put (slipper-shod) feet up

Good thing I discovered a few savory popcorn recipes to go with all that Netflix! My brother-/sister-in-law got me an air popper for Christmas, and we've made good use of it since. Side plug for an air popper: zero fat required to pop, zero burned kernels, zero clean-up...well, almost:

The favorites so far: (simply mix topping ingredients, pop popcorn, toss well; taste and adjust)
  • Butter, black truffle oil, Parmesan cheese (2 T butter, drizzle of truffle oil to taste, 1 c finely grated Parm)
  • Butter, soy sauce (2 T butter, 1-2 T soy sauce to taste)
  • Sesame oil, Shin Ramyun instant ramen soup mix powder - oh yes, I did (the crowd favorite; 1-2 T sesame oil, 1/2 packet soup mix)
